The world is in mourning after a mob boss who once dressed like a Greek goddess was arrested for plotting to kidnap a woman and sell her body parts on the black market.
Chico, 40, was arrested Friday in a Los Angeles suburb.
He was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit kidnap, one count each of conspiracy and conspiracy to extort.
Chico is the grandson of Mexican Mafia boss and former president Miguel Díaz Chico, and was one of the most notorious figures in the 1980s and 1990s.
Chino was a charismatic leader who was instrumental in organizing Mexico’s powerful Gulf cartel to fight off U.S. forces and later was the leader of the Los Angeles chapter of the New York City-based Mexican Mafia.
He had ties to the U.K. and was on a U.N. blacklist for decades.
Chicano’s arrest comes at a time when Mexican authorities are trying to crack down on the underworld, where organized crime groups operate largely on the dark web, a place where criminals hide their identities and move in groups.
Chicano was the son of a prominent Mexican Mafia figure, Miguel Domingo Chico.
Chichos arrest comes as Mexican authorities in Mexico have stepped up efforts to crack Downers crackdown.
The government is also investigating several cases that resulted in deaths, and authorities have cracked down on organized crime in some of Mexico’s biggest cities.
In the past, Chico was a member of a powerful Los Angeles mafia family.
In 1997, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
In 2009, he and his brother, Domingos, were charged with extortion in connection with the murder of an Arizona couple, and in 2012, Chichos was convicted and sentenced on a separate murder charge.
In 2014, he pleaded guilty to extortion in a separate case.
